2024 Scholarship applications are now closed. The 2025 recipient will open in February of 2025.

For the past 20+ years, the YMCA of the Northwoods has been honoring teens who demonstrate outstanding character and live the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The YMCA Teen Character Scholarship, made possible by the Steingraber Family, was created to reward students for exuding exemplary character in their lives and communities. This scholarship is a chance for the YMCA to help these students get a chance to prepare for a career in which they can continue to demonstrate positive character values.

Our goal is to build the teen leaders of today into the leaders of tomorrow. Any current or former YMCA of the Northwoods Teen Character Award recipient is eligible to submit an essay (1000 word max) about what you believe character is and how you plan to display character in your life both now and in the future. The essay must be submitted with the application form below.

If you are selected as the recipient of this year’s scholarship, you will be invited to attend the 2025 Teen Character Awards Ceremony held in April of 2025. If you have questions about the scholarship or your eligibility, please call 715-362-9622.
