Lifeguarding Classes & CPR are unavailable in Phase 1 & 2 reopenings. We are looking to open more areas back up in Phase 3 of our reopening plan. Phase 3 dates are TBD. (Determined by Oneida County Health Department and internal confidence of safe spaces.)
Basic First Aid/CPR/AED – ASHI
This program teaches participants basic level training in first aid, CPR and AED skills. Each course is offered separately (Basic First Aid alone or CPR/AED alone) of all together. This class gives participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing and choking emergencies and how to perform CPR for a victim with cardiac arrest. It also teaches participants when and how to use an AED properly. Certifications issued upon successful completion of the course.

Basic First Aid/CPR/AED E-Learning – ASHI
This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to perform basic first aid skills, CPR and AED skills through online training and classroom skills practice. Participants will successfully complete an online portion of the class and meet at the Y to complete the class skills practice with an ASHI Instructor. Upon completion of the class, participants will receive a 2-year certification in Basic First Aid, CPR and AED.

Lifeguard Training and Waterfront Skills – American Red Cross
Course Content & Prerequisites: This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies in and around pool and waterfront environments. Participants must successfully complete the following prerequisite swimming skills: *550-yard, continuous swim using front crawl and/or breaststroke; tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 pound brick from a maximum depth of 12 feet, then swim 20 yards with both hands on the brick; and swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve 3 dive rings placed 5 yards apart, surface and swim to the wall. Participants must be 15 or older by completion of course.
Certificate: American Red Cross Lifeguarding & Waterfront Skills (includes CPR/AED and First Aid) upon successful completion of the written and physical skills tests. The certificate is valid for 2 years.
Class held in the summer months only at YMCA of the Northwoods and Hodag Beach.

Blended Learning lifeguard Certification – American Red Cross
This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be a lifeguard through online training and classroom skills practice. Upon completion, candidates will have a 2 year certification in CPR, AED, First Aid and Lifeguarding. This course is 7 hours online training plus in class training.

Lifeguard Recertification Training – American Red Cross
For individuals needing to recertify their Lifeguarding, First Aid and/or CPR. This class is designed for those who feel comfortable demonstrating their skills without needing a review. You will be expected to competently demonstrate all the lifeguard skills and the pre-course swim of 300 yards, and the 10 lb. brick retrieval. You must pass a written exam with an 80% or better.

*Prerequisite: Participants must be 15 years of age by the last day of the course. Candidates must pass a mandatory swim test on the first day of class including 300 yards Lifeguard Course, 550 yards Waterfront Course.
