The holidays should be a special time for everyone, especially children. With cold weather, many of us take for granted that we will have a warm pair of mittens to wear or a scarf to protect our faces in the bitter cold. However, not everyone is as fortunate as we are. There are children who don’t have mittens or hats to keep them warm.
The YMCA of the Northwoods would like to help those less fortunate this Holiday season by hosting a “Tree of Warmth”. The “Tree of Warmth” starts off bare, but soon after becomes an amazing display of warmth for the children, women, and men of our community. We invite the community to help us decorate the tree with mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, earmuffs, boots, jackets, and snow pants. We ask that all items donated be in new or gently used condition. Handmade knitted or crocheted mittens, gloves, scarves and hats are also welcome.
All items can be dropped off at the YMCA of the Northwoods at 2003 E. Winnebago Street, Rhinelander as the tree is located in the lobby of the YMCA. Community members can decorate the tree of warmth with their donations or drop them off at the Welcome Center. Donations will be accepted until December 20th. Items will then be donated to local community schools in the Rhinelander area, Warm for Winter & the Tri-County Council.
