The YMCA of the Northwoods has been part of the community for over 18 years. We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening the community is our cause.

Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

Stop in for a tour to learn how you can become healthier in spirit, mind, and body.

All cancellations are submitted to B-93, WRHN, WHDG, WOBT, WMQA, WRJO, WXPR, and WJFW TV-12 as well as posted on our Facebook page and website. In the event a program is canceled, the program may or may not be credited or rescheduled. This is determined by the program director.

What We Believe

We believe that every child, family and community is precious and the organizations in the community should foster harmony and growth. The YMCA of the Northwoods’ mission statement, vision, and program goals are based on the following guidelines.

Self Worth
From children to seniors, people are recognized in the Y for their uniqueness, which, in turn, enhances their sense of self their value. It might be a teen elected club president, a fund-raising volunteer winning The Best Campaigner award, or a young child successfully swimming across the pool for the first time and being promoted to the next higher level of swim instruction.

Christian Principles
Y’s encourage people to develop their faith, though the Y does not promote a specific religion, the Y is a faith-based organization. It does not apologize for that but instead celebrates its Christian heritage and prides itself on being a place where people of many different religions can come together.

Positive Relationships
The Y is a community service organization and as such encourages civic responsibility and service to the community. The Y enables people to make a positive contribution to the world while strengthening their own family relationships.

Holistic Health
The Y created the three-sided triangle logo to point out the relationship among the health of spirit, mind, and body. Educating and enabling people to practice healthy habits is an important way the Y fulfills its mission.

Appreciation of Diversity
The Y encourages the valuing of differences whatever those differences are including ethnic background, economic level, educational accomplishments, gender, physical/mental abilities, or religion. It is only when we can move beyond tolerance to the appreciation that this goal is achieved.

International Awareness
The Y is a worldwide organization, and it is the responsibility of every Y to help educate its community about the larger community of the world. Awareness leads to understanding and only where there is understanding can there be peace.

Leadership and Service
Since its earliest days, the Y has been a source of leadership development. Leadership development knows no limit of age children, teens, young adults and seniors all have the capacity to enhance their leadership skills and become servant leaders.

Environmental Stewardship
With its commitment to preserving natural resources and teaching environmental education, the Y believes that we must all take care of the world and its resources. We are responsible for God’s world and enabling future generations to enjoy its beauty and resources.
