YMCA and Red Cross are pleased to announce that the First Aid/CPR/AED, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers and Lifeguarding programs are now available in a blended learning format. Blended Learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions conducted by Red Cross certified instructor, Melissa Nieman. The new blended learning courses build the same knowledge and skills as our traditional classroom training courses. Please contact Melissa Nieman for more information on blended learning options!
Junior Lifeguarding
Ages 11-14
Prerequisites-Child must be able to swim 25 yards without stopping with good freestyle form. Must tread water for 1 minute in 5 feet
Are you interested in lifeguarding – but not quite old enough yet? This course is designed to give you a sneak peek into what it takes to become a great lifeguard. We cover all the basics and get you ready to enter the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program when you turn 15 years old. Introduction to Lifeguarding, Lifesaving Skills ,Leadership Skills, Fitness and Professional Development.

Adult, Child & Infant CPR American Red Cross
Teach participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing and choking emergencies and perform CPR for victim of cardiac arrest. The course includes textbook. Certifications issued upon successful completion of course. See website for up-to-date schedule.

Hands-Only CPR
One quarter of Americans say they’ve been in a situation where someone needed CPR. If you were one of them, would you know what to do? In this class you will learn what to do in a cardiac emergency and how to use an AED. Class length is one hour. You will not be certified in CPR or AED by taking this course.

Lifeguarding
15 or older
Learn the skills and knowledge required to become a lifeguard, including how to recognize, prevent and respond quickly to aquatic emergencies. Learn CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Oxygen Administration and First Aid. Participants will receive certifications after attending all class sessions, passing all written exams, water skills and tests. Girls/woman require one piece suit. Lifeguarding for Pool and Waterfront
American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding is ideal for lifeguards working at non-surf, open-water environments such as lakes and rivers, as well as traditional pools. The course teaches professionalism, patron and facility surveillance, rescue board techniques, emergency preparedness, and more. This course includes certification for pools.

Pre-course Swim Test

Swim 550 yards (about 500 meters) continuously

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds

Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4–7 feet of water, resurface and swim 5 yards to the side of the pool
