Join a Cause for Community, Join the Y
When dealing with life’s daily demands, people need a place to go where they can feel supported. Adults need help finding balance in life and motivation in managing their health. Children need safe environments where they’re nurtured and inspired to reach their full potential. Seniors need a place where they can be active and find camaraderie. And, families need opportunities and places to connect and strengthen relationships with one another.
The YMCA of the Northwoods – a leading nonprofit that strengthens community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility – offers this support and more, and during its annual membership campaign is encouraging the northwoods community to join the Y.
“At the YMCA of the Northwoods, you’re not only part of an organization, but part of a community and a cause that benefits you and your neighbors,” says Laurie Schlitt, Associate Executive Director, YMCA of the Northwoods. “Here, a membership means more – it’s an opportunity to feel good while being part of a cause that helps make positive changes in people’s lives.”
The YMCA of the Northwoods offers a variety of programs to the community, with something for everyone, to learn more about the YMCA of the Northwoods and to get involved, contact Laurie Schlitt at 715-362-9622 ext. 106 for more information.

Lets it Snow!
Here are some fun things to do in the snow . . .
Snow painting
Snow painting is a great winter activity for kids. It is a unique way to nurture artistic talent or introduce kids to the joy of artistic creation. If your kids have exceptional artistic talent, they will love the chance to explore a new medium to create their art. And if your kids aren't especially artistic, they will still have fun.
Snow painting is easy, requires very little preparation and can keep the kids outside in the fresh air for a while. It's also an activity that the whole family can do together.
What you Need: At the very least you need yellow, red, and blue food coloring, and three spray bottles. If the kids want to do more than paint with spray colors, you may also want to gather some plastic bowls and brushes.
Art icicles & frozen blocks of colored ice
What you Need: Food coloring, water, ice trays, molds, muffin tins and other containers.
Freeze colored water in ice-cube trays, Jell-O molds and yogurt containers. We placed all the materials on an outdoor table, and everyone took turns building totem poles, monsters and free-form sculptures, gluing the blocks of ice with a little dribble of water (it quickly froze).
TIP: For consistency of hardness, consider making your colored blocks in the freezer rather than outdoors.
Headless Snowman
What it is: A goofy photo opportunity that allows kids to substitute their heads for a snowman's
What you need: Camera, props (such as a corncob pipe), small stool
The kids we know love any chance to be hams -- especially for the camera. Enter this decorated but headless snowman. As the cameras clicked, the kids took turns mugging as Frosty, corncob pipe and all. We placed a small, sturdy stool behind the snow body so that the shorter kids could also get into the act photos make great take-home souvenirs.
