FIT FOR LIFE Lifestyle Change Program
Through January up to February 6, 2012, the YMCA of the Northwoods Beck Family Center will begin accepting applications for the FIT FOR LIFE Lifestyle Change program.
The FIT FOR LIFE Weight Loss Competition is a 12-week structured exercise program with weekly workouts, challenges, weigh-ins and lifestyle lectures, taking place in February and wrapping up in May. This year’s program will see the addition of individual personal training sessions and body composition analysis. The winners will be the male and female with the greatest percentage weight loss over the twelve weeks. Last year’s winners lost over 35 pounds each over the twelve weeks, with the greatest weight loss being 55 pounds! As a group the 20 participants lost 387lbs.
Through this program, participants are given the tools to make successful long-term changes in their health and well-being. “The FIT FOR LIFE program has created results year after year, and with subtle changes to the program we are able to see continued success and most importantly results.” says Chris Cook, Wellness Director. “Even though the program is geared towards a weight loss program, it’s more a program which gives you the building blocks to create a healthy lifestyle routine and build relationships that last well beyond the timelines of the program.”
Applications are available at the YMCA of the Northwoods and online. They are due no later than Monday, February 6th, 2012. Enrollment is limited to 25.

Youth Resistance Training
The YMCA of the Northwoods is starting our inaugural youth resistance training class. This class will introduce 9-12 year old boys and girls the fundamentals of resistance training, by working on proper form and proper progression for their age.
Training techniques include body weight, resistance bands and free weights. Classes begin February 20th.
Studies have shown that resistance training during adolescence can increase bone density, help prevent injuries, help improve self esteem and can improve body composition.
